BACKGROUND: Roman grew up in what seemed to be a fairly average middleclass family. In truth, though, his parents were hunters and raised him and his younger sister Morgan to be the same. He never really questioned the existence of the supernatural underground or its dangers, as it has always been a part of his life. All in all Roman had a fairly average childhood, if one ecxludes studying occult practices, weapon-handling and various types of combat. His parents were strict, but fair and never forced him or his sister into hunting agains their will. Roman finished high school in his hometown of Louisville, but never persued any higher education.
He has spent most of his adult life traveling between states, working as a freelance hunter of supernatural creatures. He has mainly worked with government agencies, such as the BSI, but will take any contract he can manage. He's good at what he does and gets the job done, but he is not exactly a god-given progedy child and often ends up causing a bit of havock. His family name has some hold in the business and as such Roman usually goes by Harland rather than his given name.
Since he struck out on his own Roman has communicated very little with his family. They are still on good terms and he is especially close with his sister, but they are all busy people. While he only returns to Kentucky a few times a year he has maintained a hint of a southern accent.
PERSONALITY: At a glance Roman seems like the exact kind of person your parents told you not to hang out with in high school; over-confident, reckless, tactless and somewhat aggressive. It makes him come across as a quite abrasive person and some people seem to think that he only has his own interest in mind. There is some truth to it, however, as Roman is fairly blunt, which often comes off as rude, and he is definitely reckless. His recklessness doesn't stem from a sense of over-confidence as much as the fact that he is hot-headed and impulsive. He has a definite tendency of acting and speaking before thinking and planning ahead is generally not something he does.
Beneath the attitude that makes him seem like an arrogant bastard, Roman is actually a pretty amiable person. He has a very strong moral compass which, contrary to popular belief, often doesn't agree with his personal interests. He's outgoing, sociable and down to earth once you get to know him. Generally he's a fairly simple and straight-forward person. He's surprisingly perseptive and clever, even if no one would ever describe him as a genius.
One thing that might make him seem completely despicable to some, despite his better qualities, is his ability to completely depersonify his targets. He does kill people for a living from time to time and having the ability to compartmentalize is pretty essential for him to stay sane.
APPEARANCE: At 185 cm Roman is a bit taller than average. His build seems very proportional to his height, with broad shoulders and long limbs. Roman's job requires him to stay in shape and as such he is well-muscled, trained for both speed and endurance. While naturally light-skinned he always seems to have a bit of a tan, as he spends a lot of his time outside in the sun and has gotten beyond the point of getting burnt. There are several scars marring his body, some less severe-looking than others. A series of intricate symbols are tattooed on the inside of his forearms. They appear almost identical, but there are some faint differences. They are special sigils designed to negate magic, in the sense that he is less affected by spells and curses than any regular person would be. Roman isn't exactly a stunner or a head-turner, but he is decently good-looking. He has a somewhat rectangular face with a sharp jawline, although this is usually hidden behind scruffy facial hair. His nose seems just a tad too large for his face, but apart from that there are no real remarkable features to be found there. His eye colour is a fairly average gray-blue mix and he has light dirty-blond hair to match. Usually it is kept short, but tends to get on the long side if he has been on the road too long - it's more or less the same story with his facial hair. While he isn't very old there are already lines to be found on Roman's face, especially around his eyes and on his forhead, that are very prominent when he smiles or frowns. When he was younger he thought it was a brilliant idea to advance from pierced ears to stretching the holes, which had a fairly permanent effect. He still wears black plugs in his earlobes because it at least looks a little better to leave them in than to have a gaping hole in his earlobes. Appearance is generally not something Roman is overly conserned with.

» Roman drives a black 900 Triumph Thunderbird from '95. He has a regular driver's license, but is barely able to drive a car.
» While he is trained to use several types of weapons he prefers handguns. Easily concealed, not very messy and, most importantly, not too up close and personal.
» He's surprisingly proficient at reading Latin and ancient Greek. He even knows a few phrases and words in Hebrew and Aramaic, as well as a couple of other languages often used for spells and incantations.
» Despite being able to read a handful of foreign languages, Roman is only fluent in American-English. He knows a couple of insults in Spanish, though.
» He tends to call people "sweetheart" a lot. It's not always condecending.

» Since he travels so much he has more or less given up on having a permanent residence. He owns a studio apartment in LA, but it's usually rented out to some poor student or starving artist because Roman's never there himself.
